This past weekend at St. Scholastica Priory was an eventful and exciting one. Vivian Webster entered our community on the Feast of the Annunciation (which was also Sr. Mary Angela’s feast day)! Vivian donned her blacks and whites to join the Benedictine ranks, “trusting in the Lord’s help” (Rule of St. Benedict 68:5) to begin her new and beautiful way of life. The next day, Laetare Sunday, was therefore all the more joyful, and we were doubly blessed with the presence of our postulant-to-be, Elena, and her family from New Hampshire. It was a lovely day to share stories over coffee and dessert—even as our dog Chaeli kept trying to steal the homemade cheese!
The Annunciation is a hallmark feast for those who are discerning a vocation, and also for those who seek to respond more fully to the call they have received. “Be it done unto me according to Thy word,” says Our Lady—the young woman who answered God’s invitation with a resounding yes. May we also accept God’s will for our lives with a heart as open, as humble and as generous as hers.
